Show judge Godfrey with his assistants
Our show judge for this year was Godfrey, accompanied by his wife Carmelita, who cultivate a plot on the Toddington Road allotments in Leagrave. The Plot Holder of The Year judge was once again Peter, who cultivates his garden in the New Town area of Luton.
Prize giving is about to start. Tension is rising. After three years of crop failure one hopeful plot holder has finally produced an entry for the “radishes – 10 in a bunch” category. Will judge Godfrey declare it ‘rosette worthy’?Chairman, Chris, is busy awarding rosettes. Here Mrs Monzione, this year’s recipient of The Plot Holder of The Year award, has just received a rosette for one of her entries in the produce show.

The apple press in action. Simple but effective human muscle powered technology. Everybody who took part enjoyed a well-earned glass of apple juice fresh from the press.
Lots of good looking entries in the carrot and courgette categories this year. The round ‘pattypan’ courgettes are looking nice but have grown a little too big to be at their peak for taste.
Sweetcorn and beetroot looking perfect.
The tombola was well stocked this year. A ticket was £1, and every ticket was a winner so well worth investing a £ in. It proved very popular and all the items found new homes quickly.
Corn Hole tournament in progress. The winner was Abdul who managed a ‘Grand-bag’ of 12 points with his first round. A ‘Grand-bag’ is when all 4 bags go straight in the hole directly, one after the other, in one round! Nigel came 2nd with 10 points and Diego 3rd with 9 points.

Barbie & Ken attended in their capacity as Film & Entertainment Industry VIPs. This is becoming a cherished tradition. Their presence adds glitz and glamour to the show.
The ‘vase of mixed flowers’ category was colourful and interesting.Janet in the refreshment gazebo gearing up for the lemon drizzle cake stampede.
The outdoor cafeteria is in full swing. Janet and daughter’s lemon drizzle cake was a favourite again. This year they baked a double batch to make sure demand did not outstrip supply.
The potatoes posing next to the onions. .Every cook knows that potatoes and onions make a perfect combo.
Good selection of garlic this year and some plump aubergines.
